ABOUT OUR PROGRAM
The six week, middle school summer enrichment program is the bread and butter of The Summer Institute. Students spend their mornings in an academic setting; learning applied math & science and reading and writing. Our Math and Science programming uses an "Inquiry Based Learning" model to encourage excitement about STEM learning and get our students to develop their own curiosities and and questions about the world around them. Our Reading and Writing program takes advantage of our position in the Museum District by infusing cultural excursions into students developing assessment and writing about the world around them.
In the afternoons, students benefit from a thematic wellness program that aims to inform their physical and spiritual development through play, discipleship groups and trips. The goal is to get their bodies moving, blood pumping and minds working towards being their best selves. Students end their day with executive functioning training and study hall.
Our program provides a student centered model of learning. We offer small class sizes of 16-18 students. All students have access to iPads to enrich their learning experiences.

Fun Fridays are cultural weekly surprise excursions. The students do not find out what the activity is until the Thursday before to build up a bit of suspense! Last Summer's excursions included an Escape the Room, Wakeboarding, a behind the scenes tour of The Houston Texans Facilities, and a Sherlock Holmes Mystery Adventure.
There is a $50 registration fee.
The Summer Institute is a not for profit educational enrichment program servicing low-income students in Houston. We provide tools and resources to narrow the achievement gap in educational success for motivated middle school youth from under-served communities.
